The panel discussion on Watergate that brought Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein together on the 40th anniversary of the break-in received especially high marks.

Posted 4/12/2012 5:04:00 PM The convention program, including luncheon speeches by President Barack Obama and Republican challenger and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, was a big hit inside the meeting rooms at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. Many of the sessions also generated a huge amount of attention outside the walls of the hotel, and much of it was broadcast live by C-SPAN. Bloomberg News Executive Editor Susan Goldberg took the reins as ASNE president on the final day of the convention. During her acceptance speech, Goldberg talked about the pride she feels in her chosen profession and her optimism for ASNE and the future of professional journalism.

Posted 4/4/2012 2:40:00 PM WASHINGTON, DC -- Total newsroom employment at daily newspapers declined by 2.4 percent in 2011, while the loss in minority newsroom positions was 5.7 percent, according to a census released today by the American Society of News Editors and the Center for Advanced Social Research at the Missouri School of Journalism.

The American Society of News Editors and the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism today announced a new partnership, including plans to move ASNE’s headquarters to the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute on the university’s Columbia, Mo., campus.

Posted 3/30/2012 11:24:00 PM Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has accepted an invitation to speak at the ASNE/NAA lunch on Wednesday, April 4, during the ASNE Convention at the Marriott Wardman Park hotel. Romney will speak from the same stage that President Obama will use to address ASNE and NAA attendees 24 hours earlier, at the annual Associated Press Annual Luncheon.

Posted 3/21/2012 5:02:00 PM President Barack Obama will make a return visit to the ASNE convention this year, giving the keynote address at the AP Luncheon on Tuesday, April 3. Obama spoke at the same lunch four years ago when he was a candidate for president. With his appearance at this year's convention, Obama joins every sitting president since Calvin Coolidge in addressing an ASNE audience.
