2011-12 ASNE committees

Convention Program Committee

This committee will continue to focus on freedom of information, shield law and free press issues, while committing to broad-based support for all five First Amendment freedoms.

Diversity Commitee

Karen Magnuson, Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle, co-chair

This committee oversees ASNE's long-held commitment to newsroom diversity.

Freedom of Information Committee

Leadership Development Committee

Linda Grist Cunningham, Rockford (Ill.) Register Star, vice chair

This committee will focus on ASNE's efforts to develop future leaders in the news industry through extensive training opportunities, including webinars and regional conferences. It will incorporate the work of the Ethics and Values, Online Porgrams, Small Newspapers and Technology committees.

Membership and Marketing Committee

Pamela Fine, School of Journalism and Mass Communications, The University of Kansas, Lawrence, co-chair

This committee's assignment is to expand membership through marketing and outreach, while clearly communicating to existing members about the ongoing work of ASNE and the benefits of belonging to the organization.

Partnerships and Projects

This new committee will focus on building relationships with other like-minded organizations to fulfill our mission, expand resources and deepen our impact. This means working with other organizations to develop conferences and training, as well as raising revenue and building visibility. This committee also incorporates the work of the Education for Journalism and High School Journalism committees.
