If you visited Google's home page yesterday, you may have noticed a text ad below the search bar promoting awareness of the First Amendment and including a link to the "1 for All" website. Evan Osnos of The New Yorker originally asked whether it was a coincidence that the ad appeared on the same day the search giant's struggle with Chinese censors was back in the headlines. James Fallows of the Atlantic responded by explaining that it was a coincidence and he described the ASNE connection to the unusual promotion.

Although its freedoms are the cornerstone of our democracy, most Americans have no idea what the First Amendment says.
