THE POWER OF PRINT: A DISCUSSION WITH DAVE EGGERS -- Capitol Ballroom Salons E & F
Dave Eggers created the San Francisco Panorama as a paean to newsprint and an exploration of the possibilities of the newspaper format. The single-issue, 320-page broadsheet, which includes a 120-page magazine, a 96-page book review and a 16-page comic section, sold out its initial print run of 20,000 copies in a few hours, and continues to sell for $16 per copy over the Internet. Eggers will address the lessons he learned while editing a newspaper; what newspapers can do to attract young, literate readers; and the leadership qualities that have allowed him to attract and retain the exceptional talent that sustains his mini-publishing empire and national nonprofit writing and tutoring center for children
