Joe R. Howry is the Editor and Vice President of the Ventura County Star. Howry was named editor of the paper in 2004, after serving as the managing editor for 11 years. Before coming to Ventura, Howry was the managing editor at the Salem Statesman-Journal in Salem, Ore.

Howry began his career at the Havre Daily News in Havre, Mont., and also served in reporting and managing positions at the Reno Gazette-Journal in Reno, Nev.

He is a graduate of the University of Montana.

Under Howry’s leadership The Ventura County Star has won numerous awards in both print and digital media.

Howry is a member of the American Society of Newspaper Editors and also serves on the board of The California Endowment Health Journalism Fellowships at the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Southern California.
