David M. Giles is the deputy general counsel and chief ethics officer for The E. W. Scripps Company.  In his capacity as chief ethics officer, Dave is responsible for the company’s ethics programs, policies and compliance, and manages ethics training and investigations.  As deputy general counsel, Dave is involved in a variety of matters, including prepublication review, litigation, contracts, antitrust, intellectual property, labor and employment, and business development, including Scripps’ spin-off of its national network and interactive divisions.

Dave is a graduate of Washington and Lee School of Law, and has a Master's degree in journalism from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor's degree in government from St. Lawrence University. Before completing his law degree, Dave worked as a reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer and USA Today.
