Bobbi Bowman, diversity consultant, ASNE. Bobbi began her career at The Washington Post as a suburban reporter and became an assistant city editor. She has also worked at the Detroit Free Press as deputy city editor, USA TODAY covering state and local politics, Gannett corporate offices, and as the managing editor of the Observer-Dispatch, a Gannett newspaper in Utica, N.Y. In 1999 Bobbi was named Diversity Director of the American Society of Newspaper Editors. At ASNE, she works with editors across the USA to try and help increase the number minorities in our newsrooms. She also writes a monthly column for the Maynard Institute web site on Covering the New America and the Poynter Institute. In 2009, Bobbi received the Ida B. Wells Award.
She is a student of World War II and the 8th Air Force. In 2004, she stood on Omaha Beach with the heroes for the 60th anniversary of D-Day.
