We all know that the newest specialists in journalism are bringing technology's tools, skills, language and culture into news organizations. Sometimes in teams and sometimes as lonely crusaders, these reporter-coder hybrids are leveraging technology to produce new kinds of reporting and storytelling.

 

To highlight the opportunities for newsrooms in this movement, we are thrilled to announce Hacking News Leadership on May 3-4 at the University of Texas at Austin's Belo Center for New Media. A cutting-edge conference in a cutting-edge city!

We are hearing some movement on the federal shield law front. If interested in helping us achieve success on this long-term legislative goal, ASNE members should show their support now. As always, your editorials or calls to your senators will be extremely helpful.

ASNE prepares to launch 2014 newsroom census

 

The American Society of News Editors is getting ready to launch the 2014 Newsroom Employment Census as part of our long-term goal to increase diversity in U.S. newsrooms.
