Film salutes editing professor, internship program

To celebrate 50 years of the Dow Jones News Fund summer editing internships, alumnus Terry O'Toole commissioned a short film honoring Edward Trayes who has taught for 50 summers at Temple University. The film features ASNE Foundation President David Boardman, dean of the Klein College of Media and Communication at Temple, William G. Connolly, formerly of The New York Times, and alumni. It’s a tribute to an educator and the role of good editing in ensuring fair, trustworthy media.

Barry Bingham Sr. Fellowship accepting nominations

The 2017 Barry Bingham Sr. Fellowship is accepting nominations for an outstanding educator who has shown great efforts to encourage and mentor college students of color in the field of journalism. The winner will receive an honorarium of $1,000 to be used to "further work in progress or begin a new project."
 

ASNE trains next generation of news leaders in Chicago

ASNE trained a diverse class of 25 emerging news leaders this past weekend at the Emerging Leaders Institute at Loyola University Chicago. For two days, June 9-10, attendees assessed their strengths and challenges as a leader; learned different aspects of leadership, including things great bosses share, leaders' role in ethics and integrity in the digital age, basics of building and managing a budget and how design thinking helps; discussed how to tackle tough conversations; and set specific goals for becoming a better leader in six months and in one yearClick here to see a slide show of photos from the institute!
