Funded by Gannett Co. Inc. these awards were first presented in 2007 and are based on ASNE's annual newsroom census. The top newsroom in each of the following categories receives $3,000:

• Staffing that best reflects their communites' diversity.
• Percentage of minorities on staff.
• Increase in percentage of minority staffing from the previous year census.
